Eloping at the Salt Flats in Utah

Elopements are becoming more and more popular, especially with how crazy 2020 was! I love that they’re becoming more common because I think they’re the best way to get married, especially for people who want the day to be more personal and about them and their love. It’s a way to focus on the most important things like being with your closest loved ones, the adventure of being in a new place or one that you already love, and of course, your commitment to your partner. You can leave out the extra frills, talking to your parents friends that you’ve never met, and the normal trends that may not be meaningful to you. Elopements are about being real and doing it for you and your partner and nobody else.

The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah are one of my favorite places for an elopement! First of all, it’s kind of other worldly. It looks like another planet with how flat it is, the salt stretched out for miles, and the cracks in the ground. When the sun sets it brings the most beautiful cotton candy skies - yellows, pinks, purples, and blues and sometimes you’ll have the moon peeping out. It’s really quite stunning. You can get creative with photos once the sun goes down with views of the stars, lights from your car, and you can even have a fire on the flats while roasting some s’mores. That sounds like a pretty romantic and relaxing way to end your elopement day!

The other great thing about eloping at the Salt Flats is that you’ve got so many things so close and you’re already on your honeymoon! Wendover is a 5 minute drive where you can play with the slots, get some good food, and stay for the night. Salt Lake City is a 2 hour drive and there are endless things to do there! There are several canyons within about a half hour from the city where you can do hikes, rock climbing, ski, snowshoe, or mountain bike. If you drive a few more hours down south or east, you can hit all 5 national parks (Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Zion) and even some other stunning state parks like Dead Horse Point, Goosenecks, Little Sahara Sand Dunes).

The Salt Flats is easy to get a permit and you have so much room all to yourselves, even if other people are at the flats because they go for miles and miles and miles. If you’re thinking of eloping at the Salt Flats, I’d love to help you plan it and capture your elopement!
