Best Places to Take Engagement Photos in Salt Lake City, Utah

Getting engaged is such an exciting time. One of things you need to decide is where to take your engagement photos! If you’re looking to take your engagement photos near Salt Lake City, here are a few of my favorite places!

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON

If you want photos in a beautiful canyon surrounded by pine trees, aspens, and lots of green, Big Cottonwood Canyon is a perfect choice. Less than 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake, Big Cottonwood Canyon has several quick and easy to access photo locations that are just a quick walk from where you park. In the winter, the canyon is covered in snow but still accessible. The pine trees are often dusted with snow which creates a beautiful winter wonderland effect.

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON

Little Cottonwood is just south of Big Cottonwood Canyon. They’re similar but also super different. Little Cottonwood has more gray rock and it’s more of a straight canyon filled with trees. Albion Basin is a super popular spot in July and August because it’s at the top of the canyon where the snow has finally melted, leaving wildflowers everywhere. It’s such a gorgeous view with the mountains in the background. They used to require permits to shoot there but recently lifted that requirement which is amazing! Even in the fall and winter, this canyon is wonderful. In the fall the trees turn so colorful and you can see them for miles. In the winter, the trees and everything else is covered in snow and it’s a beautiful sight!

TIBBLE FORK RESERVOIR

About an hour from Salt Lake is a reservoir in American Fork Canyon. It’s similar to the look of the Cottonwood Canyons but the lake adds a beautiful view. You can climb up a big hill and have an overlook of the lake, hundreds of trees, and Mt. Timpanogos. It’s beautiful in all seasons and super easy to access!

LITTLE SAHARA SAND DUNES

The sand dunes are about 1 1/2 hours from Salt Lake and they are so cool! It’s so fun to take off your shoes and run up and down the dunes! It makes a perfect location spot for a fun, carefree couple. Pair it with a flowy dress to run around with and blow in the wind and it can’t be beat!

BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS

The salt flats are about 1 1/2 hours west of Salt Lake and are soooo unique and gorgeous. You can drive your car out onto the flats (when they’re dry) and go for miles. The salt forms cracks on the ground and in the winter, the flats often flood with a thin layer of water, creating a reflective effect.
