Tips for your Winter Park City Couples Shoot

Winter is such an underrated time to get photos! It’s honestly one of my FAVORITE times to take photos, even if it is freezing cold most of the time! There’s just something super magical about the snow, especially when it’s freshly fallen. The white snow can be so beautiful sprinkled on the trees and creates a nice neutral color in the background. Especially when we can get in some snow sprinkling in the picture or a fun snowball fight, it’s something you can’t get any other time of year!

Here are some tips for your next winter photoshoot to help you stay comfy & warm and dress the part (especially for you guys traveling from a warmer state)!

1. WEAR LAYERS

Layers will keep you warm, add some texture and make your outfit more interesting!

2. WEAR WINTER BOOTS

Your feet will get COLD if you’re not wearing some nice warm boots. Sometimes we’ll have to walk in some deep snow, so boots are the way to go to keep your feet warm and be the easiest to walk in. It also makes the most sense visually when you’re in the mountains covered in snow.

3. ACCESSORIZE

Wear beanies, scarves, cute gloves, and other fun winter accessories! It’ll keep you warm but also add some variety to your outfit.

4. WEAR CONTRASTING COLORS FROM YOUR PARTNER

Unless you’re both wearing black (always a good look), wear colors that aren’t the same but that go well together. Create contrast by having one partner wear a darker color and one wear a lighter color.

5. WEAR EARTHY/WINTER COLORS

Wear colors that go with winter (unless you’ve got a cute, sporty winter coat that is a brighter color). The best colors for winter are darks like black, olive green, navy, grays, or lighter colors like tans, light grays, or blues. For the most part, wearing a bright pink dress is going to look a little strange against the snow, unless you’re going for that vibe. My style is more earthy and natural, so wearing earthy, natural, winter colors will look best!

6. BRING FUN PROPS

Bring lights, hot cocoa, blankets, a sled, even a 4 wheel drive car to snuggle up in… Any fun winter props can make your photoshoot fun, warm you up, and bring out some fun laughter or cozy vibes.

7. EMBRACE THE WEATHER

If it starts snowing, embrace it! Falling snowflakes can add some magic to your photos. Don’t be afraid to get a little wet. I love to throw up some snow in the air to get some snow on your coat or just have snow sprinkling in the photos. I also love ending the session with a snowball fight or rolling around in the snow with your partner!
